A memorable 2012 EASL Congress in Barcelona

The 47th International Liver Congress, the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), took place in Barcelona from April 2012, at the CCIB – Barcelona International Convention Centre.

The decision process and venue choice for any international association strongly relies on location, attractive of the city, size of the building and its capacity, easy city access from the many parts of the world where delegates come from, as well as adequate and near hotel accommodation.

In words of Jacqui Sisto, Communications Project Manager at EASL, “the CCIB is an excellent well-spaced congress venue, positioned on the sea front, with spectacular views from the top floor, and close to the airport for easy access”.

Barcelona was memorable for EASL as the congress obtained record attendance: 9,415 delegates. EASL has come a long way since its very first meeting help in Marburg, Germany in 1966 that was attended by 70-80 scientific colleagues!

The CCIB forms part of the new technological and business district in one of the city’s best developed urban areas, with a communications and transport network connecting it to the dynamic city of Barcelona. Modern installations and architectural beauty make CCIB truly unique as one of the largest convention centres in Southern Europe.
