Gijón chosen for the third time to host one of Spain’s major medical congresses

The city is to host the 35th semFYC Congress, organized by the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine, in 2015.

The Society’s congresses are attended each year by more than 3,000 doctors, who are to revisit Gijón after fifteen years. The city already hosted the 20th Congress in 2000, when support had to be sought in nearby cities to accommodate some participants. This will not be necessary in this edition thanks to the growth and diversification in the hotel offering that Gijón has experienced in recent years, with an interesting concentration of accommodation available just a five minute walk from the Convention Centre and Exhibition Grounds. The grounds will once again host the scientific sessions and the commercial exhibition. Their unique features, with a central convention centre surrounded by independent pavilions opening onto tree-lined streets, will transform the grounds once more into a veritable “congress campus” tailored to accommodate the semFYC.
The presentation of the candidature constituted a joint effort that was launched in June last year, in which the role of the Gijón Convention Bureau has once again been to provide backing and logistical and professional support to the initiative of the Asturian branch of the Society, which has finally been entrusted this year with organizing the 35th congress.
