Porto prepares to host series of major events whilst going up 3 positons on the ICCA ranking

On the day that ICCA announced the climb of 3 positions of Porto on the ICCA Ranking 2014, the city gets prepared for two busy months on the events agenda that will attract to the city thousands of foreign visitors. The list that compiles information on the number of international events, ranking over 400 cities worldwide, has qualified 57 events that took place in Porto in 2014, which represents a rise of 3 places being now on the 43rd position of the ranking.

WRC Rally de Portugal

This will certainly contribute to the buzz already involving the city which will accommodate many of the participants of the WRC Rally de Portugal, running across the north of the country on the 21-24th May and finishing in Porto’s neighbouring city of Matosinhos. The recent opening in Porto of the new NH Collection Porto Batalha 4* increased the accommodation offer with 107 bedrooms and eased the sold out dates in the Destination during the current month.



Serralves em Festa

16aOn the following weekend of 30th and 31st, the city will be celebrating another edition of “Serralves em Festa”, a free non-stop 40-hour long festival hosted in and by Serralves Foundation which is the largest contemporary art festival in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe. The event gathers national and international artists with events for all ages: music, dance, theatre, performance and contemporary circus, exhibitions at the museum, cinema, video, photography and various workshops.

NOS Primavera Sound

Later in the same week, Porto will host the Portuguese version of NOS Primavera Sound, a music festival that originated in Spain and that is steadily becoming an event of reference in the city calendar. Taking place on 4th– 6th June, it will bring to the city many international music acts that attract an increasing number of foreign visitors which already represent nearly half of the audience. www.nosprimaverasound.com

St. John’s Festivities

On the eve of the 23rd June, the city comes to a standstill with the celebration of St. John’s Festivities, the local holiday that attracts to the city thousands of visitors. It all starts with street parties and open air dinners across the various typical neighbourhoods, and at midnight the city gathers on the banks of the Douro river and D. Luis I Bridge where a fabulous display of fireworks takes place. On the following morning, typical Rabelo boats set sail from Cabedelo beach on a great regatta, going past the Foz do Douro and towards Casa Sandeman, in the race to finish first, displaying the names of the major Port wine houses. This is a fantastic time to visit the city and Porto Convention and Visitors Bureau invites you to experience the true spirit of Porto!
