1st edition of CONNECTA 2015, Catalonia’s MICE event to promote innovation and co-creation, a resounding success

Barcelona, 29 September 2015 CONNECTA 2015, the event intended to be the latest meeting point for innovation and co-creation between MICE-sector companies and organisations, closed its first edition on a high note. Yesterday, 29 September, Xavier Espasa, director of the Catalan Tourist Board (ACT) welcomed the more than 300 MICE tourism professionals to the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB). The conference was organised by the Catalan Tourist Board through Catalunya Convention Bureau and brought together agencies, meeting planners and suppliers specialised in business tourism.

The event became a major networking platform highlighting the prevailing desire to connect. The aim of the Catalonia Tourism Marketing Plan is to achieve distinction by holding meetings that are different, creating and innovating the product to be more competitive, that is, to increase revenues per meeting. This first edition responds to a demand perceived at the first Meeting Tourism Forum 2014, to create a community and extend networking in the sector.

Attending were nine Catalan Tourism Promotion (CPT) Centres, with whom delegates were able to exchange knowledge and experiences in the various markets and identify formulas for effective action to attract them.

Along with meetings between attendees, the event included a number of 30-minute Open Meetings held throughout the day to deal with industry-related topics and a presentation by Philippe Delespesse, CEO of Inteligencia Creativa. A feature of the programme was gamification to encourage maximum participation from delegates, with prizes given to those who made the most contacts and those proposing the most innovative ideas in the Innovation Hub.
